Algorithm and distribution

Ranking signals

The actions the algorithm uses to decide distribution: watch time, sends via DM, saves, comments.

What is Ranking signals?

Ranking signals are the behaviors the network measures to predict whether a person will like a post: how long they spent on it, whether they sent it to someone, saved it, commented, opened the profile, watched to the end. Instagram stated in 2024 that watch time, sends via DM and likes are the three main ones for Reels, and that sends weigh more than likes. Signals are measured first on a sample of followers; if they are good, the post is shown to non-followers.

In Murify

Murify’s analytics shows per post the signals the API exposes, saves, shares, comments and reach, so you can see what distribution is rewarding.
